During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Public Television Pioneer KTCA TV (Channel 2) broadcast a weekly show Your Schools Today - Saint Paul Public Schools News. The program, which was hosted by Saint Paul Public School's teacher Jerry Skelly, highlighted various programs and events of the Saint Paul Schools. Jerry, who later served as the Supervisor of Instructional Media for the District, presented programs and interviewed guests on a wide range of topics and isses related to the Saint Paul Public Schools. On April 21, 1971 a program wa presented in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the School Police Program. This broadcast of these highlighted the history of the Saint Paul School Police Programand how it evolved form 1920 to 1970.
Jerry's guests were Lieutenant Henry Winterhalter, who succeed the Frank Hutznecker as Superintendent (Supervisor) of the School Police and who headed the program for over 30 years, Officer Tony Zangs who was assigned to assist Lt. Winterhalterfor many year, Fred Clark, a veteran Saint Paul Public Principal, and the two Chiefs of the Saint Paul School Police, Keith Espelin from Longfellow School and Jeff Gomer from from Nativity School. Jerry's programs were videotaped, which was still a new process in 1971, and the images shown here were taken from a copy of the tape of the broadcast.
