Pedestrian Safety
schoolcrossing.jpg

Knowledge and practice of the pedestrian safety rules is vital for all students whether walking to or from school, or to and from the school bus stop.  Pedestrian safety training is an important component of the Saint Paul Public Schools transportation safety curriculum.

Parents should discuss pedestrian safety rules with their children including:

  • How to safely cross streets
  • Always leave home early enough to get to the patrol line on time
  • Always obey the instructions of the School Patrol
  • Cross streets at the crosswalk if one is present
  • Look both ways and check for moving traffic before crossing the street
  • Walk, no run, when crossing the street
  • Use the sidewalk if one is present
  • Always face traffic when walking on a street without sidewalks
  • Respect other peoples property
  • Don't talk to strangers
  • Check in at home when you return from school
