Sly Fox and Birdie were created to teach children to be extremely cautious around railroad tracks. Some of the major points covered are:
- Staying off of railroad equipment
- Not throwing rocks at trains
- Staying out of railroad tunnels
- Staying off of railroad bridges
- Creating an awareness of highway/rail crossing signals
- Encouraging childrn to avoid playing in or around railroad cras and railroad yards.
Note: The prologue to Sly Fox and Birdie is an instructional message for the teacher and should not be shown to the children.
